The Department of OBG Nursing is one of the clinical nursing speciality departments of the Institute. The department of Obstetrics & gynecological Nursing provides courses in Obstetrical and Gynaecological Nursing consisting of theoretical and practical elements. The subject is taught to undergraduate students in the 3rd and 4th years of their B.Sc Nursing Degree Course and Post Graduate students. We provide our graduates with qualifications and skills needed to go straight into the work place. The department aims towards excellence in clinical practice and strives to provide the students with various aspect of midwifery to become competent and caring midwives. The department assists the student nurses to assimilate and ever growing body of scientific knowledge and to develop the technical and analytical skills necessary to apply that knowledge into practice. We ensure effective and efficient services to our student community and enable them to function as educators, managers and researchers in the field of maternity nursing.
The department of OBG is leading a close interaction between the obstetricians, physicians, gynecologists and neonatologists for an overall improvement in obstetric outcome. The department also maintains records and other relevant reports and conducts projects and research work. Staff and students are encouraged to contribute articles on nursing and participate in conferences, seminars, workshops & camps. Programmes for quality improvement in staff are also held. Health education for clients and their families, conducting journal reviews and research guidance for undergraduates are other activities carried out by the department.
The department has a well-equipped laboratory with various mannequins that are designed to appreciate the concepts and principles of midwifery and obstetrical nursing. It helps students to acquire knowledge and skills in rendering nursing care to normal and high-risk pregnant women during antenatal, natal and postnatal period in hospitals and community settings.
