Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel and act as we cope with life. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood. Mental health nursing focuses on the provision of holistic care that enables people with mental health problems to be physically safe and emotionally secure. It is all about helping people to make positive changes to their lives and about supporting them on their journey of recovery.

OVERVIEW

Mental Health Nurses care for people suffering from various mental health conditions and their family and carers to offer help and support in dealing with the condition. Throughout the course, students will gain practice experience in a wide range of in-patient and community settings, reflecting the diversity of mental health specialties. This could include acute psychiatry, child and adolescent mental health, forensic psychiatry, eating disorders, addictions and rehabilitation.

This course equips students with the skills to work in a diverse range of mental health nursing roles across a range of settings. Students will be compassionate with lots of patience and the ability to remain calm under pressure, with reserves of mental stamina. Exceptional people skills and communicating clearly with people from different backgrounds is essential.

Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing Speciality

The Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing specialty prepares graduates for advanced practice in the provision of psychiatric–mental health services to individuals across the lifespan and their family members in a variety of settings and roles. Courses focus on theories, research evidence, and clinical application related to mental health assessment and differential diagnosis, psychopathology, psychopharmacology, and psychotherapeutic modalities including individual, group, and family therapy. There is also emphasis on health promotion and risk prevention as students evaluate and monitor co-morbid illnesses and conditions occurring with primary psychiatric diagnoses.

OBJECTIVES:-

The Department aims to inculcate the following objectives in the students:

  • To perform psychiatric assessments and evaluations for population across the life span.
  • To diagnose psychiatric disorders according to DSM criteria.
  • To conduct psychotherapy with individuals, groups & families.
  • To function as case manager for person with psychiatric disorders.
  • To provide psychiatric consultation to primary care providers.
  • To practice at an advance practice nursing role as a psychiatric mental health specialist in a variety of settings including out patient, partial hospitalization, day treatment & community based intervention programs.
  • To appreciate the trends and issues in the field of psychiatric and psychiatric nursing.
  • To establish and maintain therapeutic relationship with individual and groups.
  • To uses assertive technique in personal and professional actions.
  • To promotes self-esteem of clients, others and self.
  • To apply the nursing process approach in caring for patients with mental disorders.
  • To recognize the role of psychiatric nurse practitioner and as a member of the psychiatric and mental health team.

CLINICAL FACILITY:

In order to practice the competent nursing skills our undergraduate & post graduate students are posted in national institute of mental health and sciences.

21st June 2024 International Yoga Day

The International Day of Yoga is a day in recognition of Yoga that is celebrated across the world annually on June 21, following its adoption by the United Nations in 2014. The day is aimed at raising awareness across the globe about the many benefits of practicing yoga. Venue: RITEE Main Campus.

28th July 2024 World Hepatitis Day

It is celebrated to raise awareness about viral hepatitis which is an inflammation of the liver that causes various problems like liver cancer. Venue: Seminar Hall.

1st August – 7th August 2024 World Breast Feeding Week

World Breastfeeding Week begins each year on the 1st August and runs right through until the 7th to generate public awareness and support for breastfeeding. Various activities are planned on different days to promote awareness for breast feeding Venue: PHC, Mandir Hasaud.
